Instead, an interesting discussion started today thanks to Alison at Post-College Kitchen, who wrote about the eating habits of her and her husband.
Our habits have grown over time, too, but I think one of the keys to our relationship is spending that time in the kitchen. When you prepare meals together, it provides a scenario where teamwork is necessary. Although there are some nights when Melissa does most of the cooking (because I work a later shift), we nearly always cook our own food, even if it means something simple.
One thing that we've done for quite a while is compiling a meal calendar for the upcoming week. That also helps us because we know what groceries we will need for the week, and it minimizes the food thrown out. That's because those impulse buys at the grocery store that we used to make have been cut.

July 20 week | Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday | Saturday | Sunday |
Lunch | leftovers | sloppy joes | polenta lasagna | polenta lasagna | crumb-coated baked chicken wrap | CPK | eggs |
Dinner | sloppy joes | polenta lasagna | BLTs | crumb-coated baked chicken | grilled cheese and homemade tomato soup | leftovers | grilled cheese and homemade tomato soup |
This is our calendar for this week. Also, we've recognized that we need to print out our calendar and hang it on our fridge. This system has really worked for us because we don't end up fending for ourselves or debating what to eat for dinner at 6 p.m.
