Our First Garden, Update 3

Well, so we didn't exactly get around to blogging this weekend like we had hoped to do. Oops.

What happened? Well, we had grandiose plans that included tons of yardwork by picking up areas where trees once stood and by planting grass seed in their place. That took quite a lot of time and effort this weekend. And we almost got to rototilling the garden. Almost.

And while we're still not quite yet at the stage to plant outside, we have some tomato seedlings that are flourishing. And our pepper seedlings, which had not sprouted as fast as the tomato ones, have shown signs of life, emerging in the past week. Melissa weeded out the secondary and tertiary plants in each section to give the dominant seedling as much nutrition as possible.

You can "exercise" your seedlings by turning them the other direction when they grow toward the sunlight.

Keep up the posts! I'll be anxious to see how things turn out for you two.

Look at all those great little plants! I love this time of the year.

We're way behind in our gardening and yard work this year. I've got a bunch of seedlings on order from a woman who sprouts seeds organically, so that's taken care of... but we really need to get started on things out in the yard. so much to do in the spring!

Also -- In addition to turning the plants occasionally, I've heard it helps to put a fan on your seedlings for a few hours each day. The wind resistance helps their stalks to grow strong and resilient!
