Gardening Thoughts, Continued

We are still in the planning stages of our garden, and we would appreciate any input you have. What sorts of fruits, vegetables and herbs have you grown in your garden? Leave your feedback in the comments.

We have tentatively planned out the space in our backyard where our garden will grow, and weve got an idea of some of the foodstuffs we want to grow.

So far:
  • tomatoes
  • cherry tomatoes
  • green peppers
  • hot peppers
  • seedless cucumbers
  • beans
  • parsley
  • basil
  • dill
  • mint
  • cilantro
  • lettuce
  • raspberries
  • strawberries
  • melons
We don't know if we'll fit all of that into our garden. And some of those will go into containers. But if we plan things right, we'll be looking forward to a great harvesting season in the next few months.

We just started our seedlings and the greens went into the soil yesterday... stop by for pics!

That's an ambitious garden! I just planned out ours yesterday... herbs have been my most successful endeavor in the past so I'm focusing on that, but hoping to do better with tomatoes this year. Last year's tomato (singular) was a sad sight.

We fill our garden with all sorts of heirloom varieties that you can't find at the farmer's market or grocery store. We like to grow tomatillos, lots of hot peppers, and a few tomatoes for salsa. Last year, we also put in leeks, sweet peppers, and eggplant. Also tons of herbs. We've actually integrated some of the perennial herbs into our flower gardens so they can enhance the landscape as ground cover.

Sounds wonderful! Every winter I envision a grand kitchen garden, then barely manage to get in a few herbs late spring. I'm so happy to see a few of the perrenials coming back.
